You’ve changed your diet, added fiber, and you’re drinking plenty of water but you’re still backed up. If that sounds like you, it might be time to explore some fast home remedies for constipation that go beyond the usual advice.
In this post, I’ll share natural solutions like supplements, probiotics, and even herbs, that I personally use with clients when they need fast, gentle relief. These are safe enough for daily use and powerful enough to get things moving again.
Start Here: Fast Natural Constipation Relief with Magnesium
One of the best places to start is with magnesium sulfate. This is one of my favorite go-to remedies for constipation because it:
- Has a gentle laxative effect
- Supports liver detox
- Helps move waste through the body naturally
Start with 1–3 capsules, twice a day (this matches Epsom salt dosage), and adjust as needed. You can also use magnesium citrate, but if you experience twitching, cold sores, or headaches, your body may prefer the sulfate version.
Dosing tip: Start with 400mg morning and night, and increase slowly every few days until you find your balance. If you experience loose stools, just back down a bit.
Looking for what can you take daily for constipation that’s gentle and effective? Magnesium sulfate is it.
Add Probiotics to Support Long-Term Gut Health
Probiotics are another great daily remedy that supports regularity over time. They help sweep waste through the gut and strengthen your digestive wall.
Three options I recommend:
- Doctor’s Best Probiotic – affordable and effective
- Klaire Labs Synbiotics – gentle and great for sensitive systems
- Dr William Davis “Super Gut” – a homemade prebiotic yogurt recipe
If you’ve tried probiotics before with little success, don’t give up! Consistency matters. And remember, your gut has to be somewhat healthy to host probiotics well.
For fast natural constipation relief, probiotics may not work overnight, but they’re key for long-term support.
For Stubborn Cases: Try Probiotic Suppositories
If oral probiotics haven’t worked, Bum Biotics (affiliate link) may be a game-changer. These are probiotic suppositories that go directly into the rectum, bypassing the stomach acid and delivering live, growing bacteria right where it’s needed.
It might sound odd but for some people, this is the solution that finally works. They’re safe, research-backed, and may even help with things like candida, SIBO, or inflammatory gut issues.
Herbs to Help with Constipation: Try Black Radish and Ox Bile
Looking for herbs to help with constipation that actually support your gut? One of my favorites is black radish with ox bile.
This combo helps stimulate bile, support digestion, and get your ileocecal valve (the “gate” between your small and large intestines) working again. That’s key for people who feel stuck, bloated, or experience pain in the lower right belly (frequently mistaken for appendicitis).
Unlike stimulant laxatives, these herbs can be taken daily and gently help your body relearn how to eliminate naturally.
Give It Time and Then Taper Slowly
If these remedies help, amazing! But don’t quit cold turkey. Your body needs time to heal. Most people need 3 to 6 months of consistent support to restore balance.
When you’re ready to stop, taper slowly. Cut the dose in half or remove one supplement at a time. Give your body time to adjust.
Don’t Forget to Rule Out Parasites
If you’ve tried everything and you’re still constipated, it might be time to look into parasites.
Our Parasite Protocol is a great next step but it’s most effective after you’ve cleared up any backup in your digestive system.
Be the Friend Who Helps
Constipation is uncomfortable and awkward to talk about. But if someone you know is struggling silently, maybe it’s time to share what you’ve learned. Because let’s be honest:
If you had spinach in your teeth or toilet paper on your shoe, wouldn’t you want someone to tell you?
Share this post or send them the link to the free Constipation Protocol so they can start healing too.
